The Internet and Bluetooth
The internet is a global system of computer networks that allow data sharing and communication within people. The internet was founded by many people in the 1950's and 60's. Tim Berners-Lee is known as the creator of the world wide web. Marc Andreessen is the creator of the first widely used browser in the world called mosaic. The internet was created for scientists to share data securely and for the Cold War security. At first, the internet was only used for military, academic, and government researchers, no one else in the world got to use it. Today, it is used for universal communication, online banking, shopping, news articles, and much more.
The creator of the world-wide web is Tim Berners-Lee. He created it for in 1989 to help scientists communicate with each other and share ideas. The world-wide web was originally used to navigate information using hyperlinks. It is now used for social media like instagram, twitter, snapchat and facebook. Another use for it is streaming and e-commerce.
The internet and the world wide web are not the same thing. The internet links your computer to many computers around the world creating a communication between people. The internet is mostly used for emails and transporting files. The web is the pages you see while you are on your computer. For example, like watching streaming services.
The first website created was by Tim Berners-Lee. It was posted on April 6, 1991. The purpose of it was to explain how to use the world-wide web in general. Specifically, how to hyperlink and how to create web pages. Yes, the website is still up. The url is: http://info.cern.ch/hypertext/WWW/TheProject.html.
A URL is the address that is typed into the browser to retrieve a website on your web page. HTTPS is a secure and encrypted page used to transfer data from the website page to your browser. The URL tells the browser where to go and the HTTPS tell the browser how to go there and how to retrieve the data.
Hedy Lamarr co-developed the frequency-hopping spread spectrum technology that is needed to create wifi, GPS and bluetooth. She started her life as an actress and then co-developed the most important system for wifi. She developed this system in 1942 and is now known as "the mother of Wi-Fi".
Bluetooth was developed in the mid 1990's by engineers at Intel, Ericsson, and Nokia. Jim Kardach named bluetooth its name. It was intended to be a temporary name, but then became the final choice. The logo is two runic letters from the vikings alphabet combined. The letters represent the latin letters "H" and :"B".
Wifi was developed in the late 1990's. Vic Hayes was the chairman that created the standard and he was called "the father of WIFI". The original name of Wifi was IEEE 802. 11b standard. It was renamed in 2002 to have a more user friendly and marketable name. Wifi was suggested to be the name as a short and catchy logo.
Marian Croak is the engineer who invented voice over protocol which changed the way the world communicates. Her work paved the way for zoom, skype, and many phone calls. VoIP converts voice into data packets to allow phone calls. None of the other calling services would be available for use without VoIP.
